Yi Yi Thant

I found out about Yi Yi Thant, who sings mostly Burmese classical music, on a compilation of Burmese songs from the 70's. The song in the video isn't the song on the comp (which was really spacey and lo-fi and beautiful, I wish I could find it to post), but it's still wicked good.

Note the chroma key background that looks like if you close your eyes and rub them, and the obvious (but pleasant) filler of Mrs Thant chilling at temples in Burma.

BTW the comp is called Princess Nicotine: Folk and Pop Sounds of Myanmar(Burma). It's on Mediafire somewhere, or you could buy it. I've been bumping it for the past week and probably for a while to come, it's pretty unusual stuff if you haven't heard a lot of Asian or Indian music, but definitely in a good way. Try it!

Yanka and Varg

Yanka was from Siberia and wrote really beautiful, haunting songs about drowning and stuff.

Varg is from Norway and was pretty weird and made genius music then he killed his friend.
